winter wardrobe

winter must-haves

Winter is definitely my favourite time of year - the snow (not that we get much over here!), the cute Christmas markets and the excuse to shop for a whole new wardrobe! Here are some of my
Winter  2012 wardrobe staples:

1. I love A/W12's baroque/jacquard trend, and I believe that these Topshop shorts are perfect
nod to it. Paired with an understated top and simple black opaques, these shorts will
take centre stage!

2. Heritage is another major trend this season, and a tartan skirt like the one above is an easy
way to encompass this trend in your Winter wardrobe.

3. Faux fur gilets and stoles can be seen everywhere this season, from both designer collections
and the high street. They look effortlessly glam whilst keeping you toasty in the cold - bonus!

4. Not only is this dress velvet, one of Winter's hottest fabrics, but the lace detail also pays
hommage to the Gothic Romance trend seen all over the catwalks. Ideal for all those
Christmas parties!

5. Quirky knitwear will always be in fashion in winter, and this cute polka dot jumper from
Alice and Olivia will go with nearly anything! Try wearing with some cigarette trousers, a
statement necklace and killer heels for a cosy yet stylish nighttime look.

6. I've yet to see a high street store which hasn't got some form of military jacket in it. This
sequinned version has been spotted on Made In Chelsea's Millie Mackintosh, and is both
practical and glamorous!

7. Thanks to Isabel Marant and Ash, wedge sneakers are fast becoming celebrities' footwear
of choice. They fit in with the sport-luxe trend and are super comfy, what's not to love?

8. Acne have done it yet again. Brit style icon Alexa Chung was one of many stars to be seen in
their 'Pistol' ankle boots, and I reckon these new 'Star' boots are going to be just as popular.
They'll go with anything, from skinnies to skirts.

So there you have it - my must have items for this Winter.
What are your wardrobe staples this season? Let me know in the comments!

Scotland

Apologies for the lack of posts this week! I have been in Aviemore, Scotland paying a visit to my auntie and little cousins. I love going up to the Highlands - the scenery is amazing and it's so quiet compared to bustling Manchester city life!

Just like a Christmas card, eh?
From going on 5 mile hikes to watching the birds while sipping hot chocolate and sampling cake from the infamous Jack Drake's cake shop, the trip was the perfect way to relax after a long first term of sixth form.

A highlight was going to the wildlife park - the snow started just as we got to the reindeer. It felt so Christmassy I just had to take some pictures! Also, I am now in love with Arctic Foxes - they're adorable!

Another new experience was that of fishing. And after a long hour and a half in -2 degree wind, I decided that it is definitely not the thing for me!

I never pass up on the opportunity to indulge in some retail therapy, and the charity shops in this town are the perfect place to hunt for one off bargains. I managed to find a grey Topshop cardigan, in my size, for just £5. Needless to say I snapped it up immediately, much to the delight of the old woman behind the till!

In Inverness, I decided to purchase a pair of wedge hi-top trainers - perfect for the sport luxe trend! However, since I cannot afford a pair of Ash trainers, I settled for a £25 pair from Internacionale. From my first time visiting that store I was very impressed, on trend clothes at bargainous prices. Can't say no to that, can we?

Here are some of my favourite snaps from my week away. Where is your favourite place for a short break? Let me know in the comments!

New York, New York...

One of my most recent purchases is this breathtaking New York Skyline dress from the one and only Black Milk Clothing.

For those of you who may not have heard of this Australian brand (where have you been living?!), they are synonymous for their innovative printed leggings, dresses and swimsuits.

Probably their most famous pieces are their galaxy leggings, which, compared to the hefty price tag of Christopher Kane's galaxy range, are a snip at around £60. They come in a range of colours, from purple (seen below) to even rainbow! Plus, the print is from an actual photo taken by NASA - cool, huh?

Although the price may seem a lot for a pair of leggings, I can assure you that I have worn mine countless times, and you can tell by the quality of the fabric that they are an investment piece that will last for years.

Considering the catwalks were abundant with galactic prints this summer, now would be the perfect time to make an investment! And FYI, these leggings look even better with some killer heels!

Check out their pieces for yourself at http://blackmilkclothing.com/

Let me know your thoughts on this brand! Have any of you purchased anything off there? Leave your comments!
